Sandbags are £9.40 each

As people start to return to their homes after the floods I learn of the generous nature of the local councils. Amber Valley Borough Council were so generous they charged residents £9.40 per sandbag and if they didn’t have the money they were told to go to the nearest builders merchants and buy sand and fill their pillow cases with them. How generous of them.

In Stroud they were slightly more generous. The local council gave everyone sandbags but they had to buy their own sand from any local business that sold sand.

These councils were not the only ones doing this. There were others that decided to say “screw the people”. Great Yarmouth was one such council who decided they weren’t going to supply any and directed people to builders merchants where they could purchase them.
