Government to do what I have been saying?

Smokers, people with alcohol problems and the obese could be denied priority treatment on the
NHS if they do not try to change their lifestyle.

The Cabinet is discussing the controversial idea as part of a drive by Tony Blair to secure his domestic political legacy by pushing through a final round of public service reforms before he departs next year.

Is the government doing what I have been saying for years? I can’t tell whether they are or not. I don’t understand whether they are going to deny ALL healthcare to smokers or just the times when their illness is caused by them smoking which is what I think should happen. Knowing this government they will probably want to deny all healthcare.

Downing Street sources said no decisions had been taken on whether to change the guidelines and stressed that the public would be asked their views on the issue first.

You can tell they are lying. They never do what the people want.

Forest, the pro-smoking group, has claimed that some smokers have already suffered discrimination. It argues that tobacco revenues, which bring in £7bn a year for the Government, dwarf the cost of smoking-related illness.

I agree with Forest. I think we should lower the taxes on smoking and alcohol to just 5% above the European average. This way it will also be unprofitable to smuggle goods back to the UK if it actually did happen. We could then downsize Customs and Excise and save even more money. Those people could then work for the immigration taskforce which would be set up.

But at the same time, the gov't is considering funding heroin addiction?

Why doesn't it encourage the dopeheads to change their "lifestyles?"

dopeheads probably vote Labour. I mean you have to be stoned to think that Labour is good for the country.

I could believe that actually. Re: Crimewave, David Fraser in A Land Fit for Criminals indicates that our gaols aren't as overcrowded as we are led to believe.

The main reason for not gaoling criminals is that it saves the Treasury money, maybe a few billion every year. The costs get passed on to the community and amount to around £60,000,000,000 a year but the Treasury shows a net gain.

Transportation of our felons to the Gulag sounds a good idea, starting with TBliar and his lot.

I know. sending 75% of our criminals to places like china and russia would save us money. our prisons wouldn't get overpopulated then because at the most we would have about 25,000 (if the prison pop reaches 100k) of them over here at any one time. the rest would be taught a lesson in foreign countries.

we would then have the resources needed to rehabilitate those 25000 criminals.
