One step closer to recognising Somaliland?

Remember Somaliland, the breakaway republic from Somalia who I have been hoping will be recognised as an independent state? Well they are one step closer to being recognised as an independent state. The World Bank has agreed to assist the Somaliland civil servant workforce in developing their skills. This may mean that soon they will be recognised as an independent state.

Also the UK ambassador to Ethiopia had a meeting with the Somaliland president. The Ambassador’s meeting with the Somaliland President on Wednesday discussed the current affairs of the Region, as well as how Britain will best assist Somaliland in development programs.

In a statement by the Somaliland presidential spokesman Abdi Idiris, the president requested from the Ambassador for his government to recognize Somaliland as an independent state and said that the region’s security and stability will greatly be enhanced if International community recognizes Somaliland’s Sovereignty. On his side the Ambassador, praised Somaliland’s democracy and its role in the peace building of the region [Horn of Africa] and said that his government will do everything it can to make sure peace in the region prevails.
