Plain Clothes police to be identified

PLAIN-CLOTHES police may have to wear yellow jackets so everyone will know they are cops.

Nottinghamshire Police Authority are considering the fluorescent coats in response to public opinion but detectives say it will blow their cover.

Authority chairman John Clarke said: "Every survey we've undertaken shows people want a more visible police presence on the streets to deter crime.

"Obviously those engaged on undercover duties will be exempt."

But a detective said: "I don't know of any other force that would think of such a daft idea."

I don’t understand why they want to do this. If they want more visible police on the streets why not put them in police uniforms? The only reason I can think of why they would do this to plain clothed police that aren’t undercover is if they are on their lunch break or something. How often would they come across a crime then?

Can anyone else see the reasoning behind this?
