US food aid is wrecking Africa

Critics of US food aid subsidies say they help cause obesity among Americans and starvation among Africans.

Now Care, one of the world's biggest charities, has announced that it will boycott the controversial policy of selling tons of heavily subsidised US produced food in African countries. Care wants the US government to send money to buy food locally, rather than unwanted US produced food.

This is a better idea than sending food but we already know what happens when we send money. The corrupt African leaders take it and spend a big chunk of the money on themselves.

Africa will never be a decent place as long as we are giving them any kind of aid. We should stop all aid now and only charities should focus on small scale projects like building schools or wells for water which is something that will last for the long term.
